The longer you take pain killers the less effective they become and of course many have side effects which can cause other health problems, so you are in a cleft stick.
I was reading about someone who takes oxycodone which greatly reduces pain however it also causes both constipation and a lack of appetite, which I would think was quite serious as they then have to take yet more medicine to deal with the side effects.
