Cactus Juice - Arthritis Pain Relief

Chronic inflammation and pain relief

What is arthritis? If you decipher the word, "arthr-" means joint and "-itis" means inflammation. So, arthritis is just inflammation of the joints. Is inflammation good or bad? Yes and no. Inflammation is the body's safety mechanism to protect an area from further damage. When an injury occurs, the body sends special chemicals and agents to begin the healing process. The chemicals prep the area while the agents clean up the mess with the help of circulation and movement. That's a good thing. When those chemicals and agents hang around too long, the chemicals and agents begin to breakdown good tissue and lack of movement builds up scar tissue. That's a bad thing.

Since most people afflicted with joint pain tend to avoid moving the area, this signals the body to stabilize the area and lock it down. What does that mean? The body begins laying down more scar tissue causing the joint to be less mobile. If the joint remains immobile for a long time, your super-intelligent body sends calcium to the joint and creates bony formations to keep the joint fixed. This is a real bad thing.

How can you overcome it? As I mentioned, movement is the key. Gently taking the joint through its general range of motion will help to break up the scar tissue. Motion allows the muscles and less vascular tissues like ligaments and menisci to receive more blood. It allows joints with synovial pouches (special fluid pouches that act as shock absorbers) to lubricate the joints. It pumps the chemicals and agents related to inflammation out of the joint so that healing can occur.

When done properly, range-of-motion movements can improve the health of the joint and reduce pain. So, get moving. Talk with your chiropractor or healthcare provider to learn how you can get started with the right joint movements. Don't wait. Just get moving.
