Advertising Your Business

Is there value in Free

For a long time I have been preaching people to take care when signing up for something that is free, because there is little value in something that is free, usually marketers will entice customers with free offers, just like supermarkets, buy one get one free, sounds much better than 50% reduction.

I used to have a number of sites where I used to offer free leads, ebooks, software and even holidays for free and maybe I have suffered from being hoist my my own petard as these methods have proved to be largely ineffective.

Don't get me wrong in this worldwide economic downturn the word Free does attract a lot more people but the more discerning are aware of the catch. If you fill in contact details in a box online you can expect that someone will contact you to try and sell you something. so you must think carefully is what is being offered for free worth something to you.

One site I do like on the Internet is IBOToolbox, I have used it for a number of months and it has a few tools such as URL shorteners and a blogging system which can help improve your search engine results. It also allows you to advertise with banners and text boxes on its site for free, provide you remain active in a social way and this has helped my business.

Yes a few people have tried to sell me on their business, but I have my hands full with what I am doing, so I tend to ignore them, I look to help people to help themselves.

I am even now working on a project which I believe will change the online marketing arena forever, so watch this space.

Millionaire Mentoring

Millionaire Mentoring.

When I started out working online many years ago the first thing i did was to find a mentor to guide and assist me in setting up a business. It was an intensive course lasting some nine months at the end of which I had a product that I had produced and could sell. Nowadays there are supposedly thousands of ways of making money online, if you believe what you see online. But in my opinion personal mentoring is the best, because you can share in success and failure and get feedback on you progress along the road to success.

When you learn to drive, you don't just jump in car and drive, you find someone who can teach you, so why is that people spend hundreds and sometimes thousands on a business and don't seek help from a mentor who can guide them to success.

It is far easier to work with someone who has been there before you, notice I said work, because you will still need to work on your success, there are no free rides, but you will be guided along the way. One of the most difficult things is deciding what you need to do to start earning money and this is where Billionaire Ed Mercer can help you. You see Ed Mercer loves to help people, he has already created 35 millionaires and now has taken up a challenge to create an additional 100 millionaires from ordinary people, for a new world record challenge.

He has done the hard part in finding a business which has a great compensation plan and a product that is used everyday. He has joined this together with a marketing system which is attracting hundred of people, to create a business plan. Part of this plan has been to set up an active group of people from around the world, who are prepared to do what it takes to improve their lives and the lives of others. This group shares information and helps one another to the extent that information and advice is available 24/7 if members have a question relating to the business of making money online.

This expanding group of people work together under the mentorship of Ed Mercer and share in the success that Ed's business perception brings. It is a win win situation the group members start to create serious wealth and Ed Mercer can expand his philanthropist help to worthy causes

If you have a true dream you want to follow, Ed Mercer can make your dream come true, the next step is to request further information by completing the form at http://seriouswealth.net and you will be invited to attend the next available live seminar to discover if you qualify to be mentored by Ed Mercer.

How to Get Money

Return on Investment

How do people create wealth, well it does not matter who you are or what you do , you could be a billionaire like Ed Mercer or an ordinary individual working a nine to five job, but you need to find a vehicle which you can use to increase your wealth. Now at one time one of these vehicles was your home, however this was ruined by lenders lending more money than borrowers could reasonably repay, with the results that their loans exceeded the future value of houses and this caused the worldwide financial crisis which we are struggling to get out. There are however a number of other ways to get a good return on investment.

I do not recommend High Yield Investment schemes unless you are prepared to lose your investment, but they can work for some people but are very risky for the unwary. One business which I am involved with is a pre-launch Forex company and in fact you do not even have to risk $1, they give you $100 in seed money to advertise their new Forex trading system and until the company formally launches you benefit from any gains or loses the system makes, the latest trade last week added another 9% to my account which is now approaching $1,200. Yes it is an advertising ploy to attract people but if they join when the company launch there are monthly commissions available which could prove regular income of one or two thousand dollars all from zero investment. Even if the business never launches you have lost nothing but perhaps when it does it will have created some money to start you on the journey to greater wealth.

People look to the Internet to earn money and it is difficult to discern which are good and which are bad for a long time Zeek rewards was flavour of the month but the business was not sustainable and many lost money they could not afford to lose.

The secret to securing a good return on your investment is to follow someone who is trustworthy and has a track record of success and one such person is Ed Mercer who has taken up a challenge with Guinness world records to create 100 new millionaires in this time of recession. If you want to share with his success you should join him on his challenge and reap the rewards of his research. A word of warning however, you will need to be prepared to commit time, money and effort to build your serious wealth, it not a program for dreamers it is for those people who are prepared to do what ever it takes to build success.

Creating serious wealth

Earlier this year became involved with some HYIP investments as a test to see if they worked. I had never really trusted them as they where attached to payments systems which I did not trust. However I found a couple that were supported by Payza, so I used that as a marker because I have used Payza and it predecessor for a number of years. All was going well until Payza without warning down supporting Hyip systems, with the result I could not withdraw my money.

I lodged a dispute with Payza requesting them to recover the money I had in the investment, not expecting to hear anything, then yesterday I had a pleasant surprise when I was informed that the had recovered 20% which actually matched by start up investment so it was a good deal. perhaps I was lucky, but I no longer would recommend anyone to invest in HYIP systems unless it is with money they can afford to lose.

My Pre-launch Forex business continues to gain with a further trade in the last week breaking through the $1,000 level, not bad for a free account with a credit of $100. the account is being managed at the moment so it is an easy way to start building up some capital for when the company launches, there is of course no risk because there was no start up cost.

I am now focussing all my efforts on ED Mercer's 100 millionaire's challenge project, the program has to be seen to be believed, There are not many people who have access to someone of Ed stature, who can provide advice on how to grow your wealth. Is is a serious business far removed from anything you have seen or heard about before. Ed Mercer has achieved virtually everything he has set out to do, so there is no reason to believe he will not succeed with his latest challenge.

Cactus Juice Chronic Inflammation and Pain Relief

Your Immune system and stress

Psychoneuroimmunology (PNI) is the study of the interaction between psychological processes and the nervous and immune systems of the human body while still in its infancy has given researchers and those within the medical, social, and behavioural sciences reason to consider more than just biology and genetics when it comes to illness, health, and the treatment of disease.

Inflammation, a common indicator of immune response, links the diseases causing nearly 70% of U.S. deaths and is modulated by stress and adverse life events, It seems that even after a stress event is over the changes to your immune system remain as a signal in you brain and can lead cue immune dysregulation (Freeman, 2009; Fagundes, et al., 2012).

In a series of experiments known as the illness-induced, taste aversion studies, conducted by Robert Ader, the conditioned response was highly reproducible and lasted without consistent reinforcement. Importantly, in more than 30 animal studies when an immunosuppressive drug was paired with a neutral substance, which would cause no reaction alone, the neutral substance elicited a conditioned immunosuppressive response, and this response increased with additional exposures (Freeman, 2009).

In a study conducted to investigate the stress response in every-day life, researchers used urine samples to gather levels of immune response markers, psychological questionnaires to obtain data on emotional states, and surveys to assess daily routine activities. Schubert, et al.'s (2012) case study was chosen for the purpose of capturing what laboratory experiments often miss—the dynamic nature of stress. Importantly, the authors acknowledged as with the other studies, that a more specific assay for measuring the biochemical response to stress could be included, as well as a more precise assessment of the psychological components of every-day experience to shed additional light on its relationship with neurology and immunity.

So what does all this mean to you, well if you live a stressful life you will be more susceptible to contracting disease and inflammation, so it is important to remove these stressors at the earliest opportunity, and try to live a calm and carefree life.

Researchers at Carnegie Mellon University believe that chronic stress is associated with the bodies inability to regulate inflammation, which in turn helps promote the development and progression of disease.

The Immune system's ability to regulate inflammation predicts who will develop a cold, but more importantly, it provides an explanation of how stress can promote disease
Says lead Researcher Sheldon Cohen who goes on to say
When under stress, cells of the immune system are unable to respond to hormonal control, and the consequences, produce levels of inflammation that promote disease. Because inflammation plays a role in many diseases, such as cardiovascular, asthma and Autoimmune disorders, this model suggests why stress impacts them as well
This latest study builds on Cohens past research which was Published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences that showed that those suffering from psychological stress are more likely to develop colds. With the common cold, symptoms are not caused by the virus -- they are instead a "side effect" of the inflammatory response that is triggered as part of the body's effort to fight infection. The greater the body's inflammatory response to the virus, the greater is the likelihood of experiencing the symptoms of a cold.

Now I have been under some stress recently and developed a cold which is unusual for me soI was interested to learn about this research.

Cactus Juice Chronic Inflammation and Pain Relief

Original Article @ David Ogdens Blog

Nopalea Cactus Juice

At Long last my sore throat is under control, but it it has taken longer than expected. My standard of diet has been anti-inflammatory including drinking plenty of water, living in the tropics this is a natural part of life as it is essential to keep hydrated and flush toxins from the body.

Perhaps I have been eating a little too much carbohydrates which are known promoters of inflammation, however as a family we use a lot coconut oil which has very low 1.9% omega 6 level. I am getting good natural vitamin D from the natural sunlight, and often spend periods of time on my balcony looking at my garden and surroundings or reading a book.Vitamin D is powerful, natural anti-inflammatory,is one of the most powerful interventions for deterring inflammation.

The only thing that perhaps I need to consider changing is to eat fermented food, or probiotic-rich superfoods that can help to populate your gut with beneficial bacteria, and ensure that your digestive tract remains healthy and well-functioning. Fermented foods and beverages also help prevent harmful pathogens from taking hold within the body.

Its is amazing how such as small thing can put you of balance, and I am happy that I can now get back to my normal way of life.

Inflammation and Exhausts

Exhaust Fumes and Inflammation

My sore throat has continued to plague me for the past week and I just can't seem to shake it off, living in the Philippines means that the locals use many natural, herbal remedies to provide relief for minor ailment, so I have been subject to a number of massages to reduce the inflammation. The following is a list of sore throat home remedies that include herbs and essential oils which can be massaged into the throat. The essential oils should be diluted in a fixed oil, such as olive oil, almond oil, or peanut oil. Use one part essential oil to 10-20 parts olive oil.

  • Capsicum extract
  • Garlic oil
  • Eucalyptus essential oil
  • Lavender essential oil
  • Lobelia extract
  • Prickly ash bark tincture
  • Red root tincture
  • Rosemary essential oil
  • Tea tree essential oil
  • Thyme essential oil
I must say that tea tree oil does seem to be the most effective. but even that has not managed to relieve the congestion, of course the high humidly does not perhaps help matters and high humidly is known to increase joint inflammation. the body is a complex system and inflammation often occurs when things are out of balance.

Inflammation and Exhausts

Original Article @ David Ogdens Blog

Nopalea Cactus Juice
Exhaust Fumes and Inflammation

I woke up this morning with a sore throat, and then remembered that yesterday I had been doing some errands on my mountain bike in Dipolog city. I use my bike as the city is not designed for cars but has hundreds of motor scooters and tricycles all of which pump out fumes.

As roadways choke on traffic, all these tailpipe fumes are already implicated in heart disease, cancer and respiratory ailments—may also injure brain cells and synapses key to learning and memory.

No one knows whether regular commuters breathing heavy traffic fumes suffer any lasting brain effect. Researchers have only studied the potential impact based on where people live and where air-pollution levels are highest. Even if there were any chronic cognitive effect on drivers, it could easily be too small to measure reliably or might be swamped by other health factors such as stress, diet or exercise that affect the brain, experts say.

Recent studies show that breathing street-level fumes for just 30 minutes can intensify electrical activity in brain regions responsible for behaviour, personality and decision-making, changes that are suggestive of stress, scientists in the Netherlands recently discovered. Breathing normal city air with high levels of traffic exhaust for 90 days can change the way that genes turn on or off among the elderly; it can also leave a molecular mark on the genome of a newborn for life, separate research teams at Columbia University and Harvard University reported last year.

Maybe my sore throat is the least of my worries, it will clear up in a couple of days, but the quality of my life is suffering from something outwith my control. Yes I live in a relative traffic free gated community, but I still have to to go into the city for supplies, I might have to consider using a mask but that would make breathing harder, so then I can not ride as fast and so prolong my exposure, its a dilemma with no easy answer.

High Bloof Pressure and inflammation

Original Article @ David Ogdens Blog

High Blood Pressure and Inflammation

On Friday at the supermarket, they were offering blood pressure checks, so Jasmin had a check which raised some questions with a result of 170 systolic pressure, which is quite a bit above the norm of 120-130. I decided to do some further investigation as generally we eat a good diet with no salt and are non smokers, so there must be another cause. The first thing I learnt was that you actually cannot rely on just one reading, you need to take a number of readings at the same time for a number of day.

Stress can increase blood pressure but is not the main cause, one also has to check cholesterol levels as well, so be probably need to do some further tests such as a C-reactive protein blood test to look for evidence of increased cardiovascular risk. A C-reactive protein measurements may help predict if she is at risk of developing a variety of heart and circulatory disorders. I believe it is unlikely she has a problem, but it is a well to check it out. Hypertension or high blood pressure can be effected by how much water and salt we have in our body, our bodies hormones and the condition of our kidneys, nervous system and blood vessels. We both take Nopalea cactus juice on a daily basis so we do not think that inflammation is to blame, perhaps it was just a faulty reading.

Cactus Juice Chronic Inflammation and Pain Relief

Original Article @ David Ogdens Blog

Nopalea Cactus Juice
Natural Pain and Inflammation Relief

I have been writing about pain and inflammation for over a year now, so by now most of you will have got the message about the root causes of inflammation and the difference between good inflammation such as when the body reacts to injury and bad inflammation when the body's reaction get out of control called chronic inflammation.

Now some reactions are to injuries inside the body, caused by the likes of abrasion. Here one of the the main culprits can be the food that we consume, because food can contain a number of harmful fats, sugars and other bad ingredients. Some people have food allergies or bad reactions to certain types of food, I for instance cannot tolerate any form of seafood. being a sailor and living in the Philippines where fish is part of the staple diet does not help.

It is important to control inflammation as if it continues uncheck can set the stage for a long list of ill-health and chronic diseases, including malabsorption of nutrients, allergies, autoimmune disorders, fatigue, obesity, hormone disorders, mood disorders (anxiety, depression), high blood pressure, cholesterol and a multitude of of digestive disorders.

I find that by watching what I eat, taking regular exercise, and avoiding stressful situations, along with taking Nopalea cactus juice on a daily basis, provides me with a good nights sleep to recharge my body and mind and also keeps arthritic pain in my joints at bay.

Pain and Inflammation Relief

Original Article @ David Ogdens Blog

Nopalea Cactus Juice
Natural Pain and Inflammation Relief

I have always wondered why there is so much advertising of health related products in the media today, it would seem that everyone from children to adults is in need of supplements and pills to keep disease at bay and live a better life.

Yes science provides a better understanding of the likes of inflammation which has been tied to life threatening diseases such as cancer, dementia, stroke, heart disease, and diabetes. But a lot of the cause is self inflicted, its is what we eat and the way we live.

Take inflammation for example, a little inflammation is good, it is how a healthy body responds to injury and protects you. As a wound heals the inflammation subsides, but sometimes the inflammation does not subside because of ongoing trauma.

So what are the causes of bad inflammation, the most likely are pollution from the atmosphere, car exhausts and smoking, or else from what we eat or lack of exercise.

We've learned that abdominal fat tissue is a hotbed of inflammation that pours out all kinds of inflammatory molecules,
says Dr. Peter Libby of Harvard Medical School. Losing excess weight lowers levels of C-reactive protein, an indicator of inflammation. This can be achieved in a matter of weeks.

Another Harvard medical professor, Christopher Cannon, advocates an anti-inflammatory diet—high in whole grains, unsaturated fats, fruits, vegetables, nuts, fish, poultry, eggs, and some dairy.

To reduce inflammation we need to remove the cause as soon as possible, this might mean giving up smoking changing your diet and taking up exercise. We have legs for walking, so use them instead of taking the car, give up late night movies and TV dinners, instead sit a table and share a family meal together

Chronic Inflammation Relief

Original Article @ David Ogdens Blog

Nopalea Cactus Juice
Natural Pain and Inflammation Relief

Chronic inflammation has been linked to a number of diseases including heart disease, strokes and cancer, and now scientists believe that excess body weight and high fat foods may further increase risks

Until now anti inflammatory drugs have been used to counter inflammation but now research has lead to a link between inflammation and what we eat, changing our diet may keep inflammation at bay and help reduce the risk of inflammation related diseases

Inflammation is the body's natural response to injury and outside irritants. But when the irritants don't let up, because of a diet of high-fat foods, too much body fat and smoking, for example, the immune system can spiral out of control and increase the risk for disease. Experts say when inflammation becomes chronic it can damage heart valves and brain cells, trigger strokes, and promote resistance to insulin, which leads to diabetes. It also is associated with the development of cancer.

It would seem that dietary fibre for example from ,whole grains may have a role in preventing inflammation and a result study also showed that dairy foods may ease inflammation in certain cases.

One substance known as C-reactive protein, measured with a simple blood test, is an indicator of inflammation in the body. A report published in Archives of Internal Medicine in 2007, which analysed results of 33 separate studies, found that losing weight can lower C-reactive protein levels. For each one kilogram, or 2.2 pounds, of weight loss, whether by dieting, exercise or surgery, the mean reduction in C-reactive protein among participants was 0.13 milligram per litre

Obesity is a growing problem worldwide and the link between inflammation and killer diseases is one more reason to watch what one eats.

How To Reduce Athritis Pain

Original Article @ David Ogdens Blog

Nopalea Cactus Juice
Natural Pain and Inflammation Relief

You diet is not a cure for Arthritis, however it can help relieve pain and inflammation. Below are seven food that are good for Arthritis suffers and will help reduce the pain and also help you lose weight at the same time.

People who suffer from arthritis are familiar with the pains, cracks and pops define the condition. But small changes in your diet can yield big rewards in managing the disease.

"Food isn't a panacea, but some can make your joints healthier," says Leslie Bonci, R.D., director of Sports Nutrition in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh.
You may not be able to give up on pain relievers, however a diet rich in these foods can make you healthier and maybe lighter. After all, every pound you carry around your belly puts 10 pounds of pressure on your joints.
  1. : Fatty fish (salmon, herring, sardines) or any other food with omega-3 fatty acids, such as walnuts, soy beans, flax seeds, canola oil and pumpkin seeds Why it's a good arthritis food: Omega-3s decrease the production of chemicals that spread inflammation, plus they inhibit enzymes that trigger it

Fatty fish also contain vitamin D, which helps prevent swelling and soreness.

When the Women's Health Study followed 30,000 women for 11 years, researchers found that those who got less than 200 international units (IU) – about 3 ounces of sardines – of vitamin D a day from their diet were 33% more likely to develop rheumatoid arthritis than women who got more.

  2. : Extra-virgin olive oil:

Why it's a good arthritis food: Olive oil contains oleocanthal, which blocks enzymes involved in inflammation.

About 3 tablespoons of extra-virgin olive oil acts like one-tenth of a dose of ibuprofen, according to a study at the Monnell Chemical Senses Center in Philadelphia. That may not be much, but small dietary changes add up.

  3. : Sweet peppers, citrus fruits and other vitamin C-rich foods

Why it's a good arthritis food: Vitamin C protects collagen, a major component of cartilage. Inadequate amounts may increase your risk for some kinds of arthritis.

Canadian study of 1,317 men found that those who got 1,500 milligrams of vitamin C through food or supplements daily had a 45% lower risk of gout (a painful condition also known as gouty arthritis) than those who consumed less than 250 milligrams a day.

"Foods that are high in vitamin C have other plant nutrients that you won't get from a vitamin C supplement," Bonci says.
Broccoli and cauliflower, for instance, have a chemical – indole-3-carbinol – that may protect us from certain cancers, including breast cancer.

  4. Brazil nuts Why it's a good arthritis food: Brazil nuts contain huge amounts of selenium – 272 micrograms in just three or four nuts, compared to 63 micrograms in 3 ounces of tuna.

For example, a 2005 University of North Carolina study found that the participants with the highest levels of selenium had a 40% lower risk than those with the lowest levels.

Low selenium may also be linked to rheumatoid arthritis. The mineral helps antioxidants clear out cell-damaging free radicals, aids the regulation of the thyroid gland and may prevent cancer.

  5. Onions and leeks Why it's a good arthritis food: Onions and leeks contain quercetin, an antioxidant that may inhibit inflammatory chemicals, much like aspirin and ibuprofen do. But research is limited, Bonci says.

  6. Tart cherries Why it's a good arthritis food:
"This old wives' tale now has science to back it up," Bonci says.
A University of Michigan study suggests that a diet plump with tart cherries can cut inflammation in animals by 50%. And a 2009 study at Baylor Research Institute in Dallas found that 56% of patients with osteoarthritis had more than 20% improvement in pain and function after taking cherry pills for eight weeks.

The magic ingredient is anthocyanins, the pigments that give cherries – and grapes, black raspberries and eggplant – their vibrancy. They're also powerful antioxidants that cut inflammation.

  7. Green tea Why it's a good arthritis food: Studies show that certain antioxidant compounds in the brew lessen the incidence and severity of arthritis.

One University of Michigan study found that epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) lowers production of inflammation-causing substances in the body that cause joint damage in arthritis sufferers.

Cactus Juice Chronic Inflammation and Pain Relief

Original Article @ David Ogdens Blog

Natural Pain and Inflammation Relief

You may be thinking that staying active is the last thing someone with arthritis wants to do, when energy levels are often low and joints are often inflamed.

However, studies show that regular exercise and activity may help reduce joint pain and stiffness, increase joint mobility and muscle strength and improve psychological well-being. Research has shown that strength training exercise, physical therapy, and lifestyle changes all have the potential to even slow the progression of the condition which means less joint damage. Recommended exercises include swimming, stationary bicycles, weight lifting and yoga.

My personal preference has always always been a power rower, but I do not have access to one know so have to rely on cycling, I regularly use my mountain bike for trips into town, its faster and more convenient as do not have to search for parking spaces.

four weight lifting use basket rather than shopping trolleys and in the home you can replace weight with using shopping bags with a few items in them.

Later this month our community pool should reopen, which is a great way to exercise, in the meantime play badminton on a regular basis with my partner.

I also find that taking Nopalea cactus juice keeps the pain and inflammation at bay as well as providing a daily energy boost and provides me with a good nights rest.

Inflammation and what we eat

Original Article @ David Ogdens Blog

Nopalea Cactus Juice
Natural Pain and Inflammation Relief

The discovery a few years ago that inflammation in the artery wall is the real cause of heart disease is slowly leading to a paradigm shift in how heart disease and other chronic ailments will be treated.

The long-established dietary recommendations have created epidemics of obesity and diabetes, the consequences of which dwarf any historical plague in terms of mortality, human suffering and dire economic consequences.

Despite the fact that 25% of the population takes expensive statin medications and despite the fact we have reduced the fat content of our diets, more Americans will die this year of heart disease than ever before.

Statistics from the American Heart Association show that 75 million Americans currently suffer from heart disease, 20 million have diabetes and 57 million have pre-diabetes. These disorders are affecting younger and younger people in greater numbers every year.

Simply stated, without inflammation being present in the body, there is no way that cholesterol would accumulate in the wall of the blood vessel and cause heart disease and strokes. Without inflammation, cholesterol would move freely throughout the body as nature intended. It is inflammation that causes cholesterol to become trapped.

Inflammation is not complicated — it is quite simply your body's natural defence to a foreign invader such as a bacteria, toxin or virus. The cycle of inflammation is perfect in how it protects your body from these bacterial and viral invaders. However, if we chronically expose the body to injury by toxins or foods the human body was never designed to process,a condition occurs called chronic inflammation. Chronic inflammation is just as harmful as acute inflammation is beneficial.

What thoughtful person would willfully expose himself repeatedly to foods or other substances that are known to cause injury to the body? Well, smokers perhaps, but at least they made that choice willfully.

Chronic Inflammation Relief

Original Article @ David Ogdens Blog

Natural Pain and Inflammation Relief

Chronic Inflammation occurs when the bodies natural defences are not switched off, the three most likely causes are:-

  1. Chronic Stress – it keeps your body constantly "revved up," wasting nutrient stores and impairing its ability to stop inflammation from becoming chronic
  2. Chronic Nutritional Deficiencies – without the right nutrition, on a daily basis, your body may not have the right resources to put a halt to ongoing inflammation
  3. Chronic Toxin Overload – in today's world, your body is constantly fighting off toxins, pollutants and contaminants from so many sources that it simply can be too overwhelmed to stop the never ending, triggered inflammation
There's one thing in common with all three of the above factors: "Chronic". When these adverse factors are chronic (constant), it greatly increases the chance that your body's inflammation will be chronic, too. And it's exactly this type of inflammation – the chronic kind – that the TIME Magazine story warned about some years ago because it can be so damaging to your health.

How chronic inflammation worsens your health over time Though you may not see or even feel chronic inflammation, it could be silently causing trouble within your body right now. Over time, it can result in two kinds of damage: first to the immediate area of your body that's chronically inflamed; and second to your overall health as well. Common problems can include:

  • Heart Problems – chronic inflammation is believed to contribute to the formation of plaque in blood vessels, as well as the formation of blood clots. When these blood clots break free into the blood, they can block blood flow to the brain or heart, resulting in a heart attack or stroke.
  • Brain Problems – chronic inflammation plays a role in Alzheimer's disease, yet scientists are still uncertain what that role is. However, one theory is that inflammation kicks into gear because of the plaques and tangles in the brains of Alzheimer's patients. In trying to solve the problem, inflammation just makes matters worse.
  • Joint Problems – chronic inflammation of the joints can result in destroyed ligaments and tendons, damage to joint cartilage and bone and even bone erosion. This leads to pain, deformity and an inability to perform daily tasks – drastically affecting quality of life.
  • Mouth and Gum Problems – dental researchers once thought bacterial infections caused gum disease, but now it is thought that some of the more severe symptoms of gum disease are attributable to chronic inflammation. The National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, part of the National Institutes of Health, report that inflammation can even break down bone and connective tissue that keep the teeth in place.
  • Emotional Health Problems – chronic inflammation may even play a role in your emotions. Scientists at the University of Illinois (Champaign/Urbana) discovered that an enzyme secreted by the immune system caused inflammation-related, depression-like symptoms in mice. Because inflammation is linked with conditions often accompanied by depression – such as diabetes, cancer and heart disease – researchers expect that this study will provide insight into chronic inflammation's role in depression.
  • Cancer Problems – although researchers haven't discovered the exact mechanism of chronic inflammation's role in cancer, they believe it encourages cancer growth. According to the American Cancer Society, inflammation creates just the right conditions for cancer cells to grow and multiply.

Cactus Juice Chronic Inflammation and Pain Relief

Original Article @ David Ogdens Blog

Nopalea Cactus Juice
Natural Pain and Inflammation Relief

We are always on the lookout to improve our lives, be it organising our time, our finances the way we we live. One of the most important things however is to improve our health and wellness. Although it may seem that we must find something like pills or an exercise regimen, or special candles or clothing that will help us to achieve optimal health, we really might just need to take it down to the cell level. With an awareness of things like Betalains and how to get them, we might just end up being healthier and experiencing a better quality of life.

Now you may not have heard about Betalains which are powerful antioxidants that work hard within the cells of your body to help reduce inflammation. Although regular inflammation can be helpful, or even healthful, an extensive or unnatural inflammation can actually do more harm than anything. Having these anti-inflammatory fighters in your system will boost the power that your body has to get rid of harmful toxins, and point you in the right direction to live a healthy and happy life.

Betalains are found in only a few vegetable and desert fruit. They are not generally handed out in boxed cereal or TV dinners. However, it has been shown that these very important antioxidants are actually found in a special plant found in the Sonoran Desert on the west coast of North America. This plant is a "prickly pear" variety called the Nopal Cactus. Inside the juice of the fruit of this plant are found all 24 Betalains known to science today.

The function of these powerful antioxidants is really amazing, and, like mentioned earlier, must be studied at the cell level. Our bodies are constantly battling toxins and harmful bacteria from the environment. When those toxins, or free radicals (unstable molecules) reach the level of our cells, their purpose is usually to damage or destroy whatever they can. Damage from molecules such as these causes disease, again, and inflammation. These antioxidants work quickly to capture these molecules, and diffuse them before any damage is done to the cell. You can imagine how important that might be for you.

The benefits that are derived from the amazing Sonoran Desert Nopal Cactus juice actually make up a list that is longer than you think. Not only does it supply a great source of Betalains, which work to help you find a status of optimal health, but it also works to lower your cholesterol, detoxify your body, and increase your energy. All of these things combine to simply make you a better you.

Scientific research shows that Betalains help to:

  • Reduces the risk of blood clots—Betalains protect the thin lining of your blood vessels; this helps reduce the inflammation that makes your blood sticky and leads to clots.
  • Reduces bad cholesterol — Betalains strongly reduce oxidized LDL cholesterol.
  • Protects cells from toxins — Betalains protect many types of cells, especially brain cells, from toxins known to trigger tumours.
  • Protects your liver — Betalains provide significant protection from toxins that directly affect your liver.

Cactus Juice Chronic Inflammation and Pain Relief

Original Article @ David Ogdens Blog

Nopalea Cactus Juice
Natural Pain and Inflammation Relief

Inflammation is the latest buzz word, popping up everywhere in the world of nutrition and health. Why eat an anti-inflammatory diet? What's food got to do with it? Let's begin with the typical definition of inflammation: acute inflammation is a cascade of metabolic immune system reactions in response to harmful stimuli. In other words, something causes harm to bodily tissues. It could be a specific trauma like a cut, or it could be viruses, bacteria, or chemicals that become too numerous. The signs you might notice are pain, heat, redness, swelling, and loss of function. You feel the heat because blood flow begins to increase in the site of inflammation, fluids build up and this pushes on nerve endings causing pain. There are some cells the immune system sends to the site that will try to eat the bad stuff, while other cells are like soldiers sent in with guns that shoot chemicals to kill the bad guys. If it is not resolved, you lose function… If resolved properly, the ca scade stops and goes back to normal, and healing results.

Inflammation is meant to protect and initiate healing in the tissues. That is the kind of inflammation we are most familiar with. There is also chronic inflammation, or unresolved and continuous low grade inflammation. The continuous cascade of immune reactions never stops, and can actually cause the body to begin attacking itself, as in all autoimmune disorders. This kind of inflammation is also responsible for most chronic degenerative conditions like cancer, heart disease, diabetes I and II, psoriasis, fibromyalgia, and more.

The conditions on the top of list, cancer, heart disease, and diabetes are poised to break our health care system in unbearable amounts of cost in treatments. And for the most part, they are preventable with proper lifestyle habits! You can see problems in our health care system happening right now if you look closely… Insurance is so expensive, hardly anyone can actually afford to be covered. Then when you are covered by some detailed and fancy sounding, outrageously expensive policy, they don't actually want to pay for anything. They will catch you on little details, make you pay part of the cost, or decide to not pay at all.

Managing and reversing inflammation on your own, through natural means is far less expensive than getting hooked to pharmaceuticals, that appear to help, as you continually climb to the next rung on the disease ladder and add more drugs to manage more symptoms as time goes by. Starting with square one; your diet, can be the most socially responsible and personally empowering thing you do.

What do foods have to do with inflammation? Food sensitivities, undigested foods, dead dried up, chemically laden processed, over heated poor food-like substances can cause the cascade of inflammation to rip through your system; stemming from various causes like leaky gut, not enough stomach acid, compromised liver, gall bladder, pancreas, or the foods are simply rejected by your immune system. Everyday, the wrong foods add to inflammation, stir up old inflammation, continue the cycle of inflammation over and over until your body can't stop the runaway train that becomes a chronic condition.

Can you reverse it? Yes and, how much function you can recover depends on the damage done. The body has an beautiful and innate ability to heal on it's own under the right conditions. Eating an anti-inflammatory diet puts your immune system at ease and helps to allow the body to begin the healing process. If your immune system is continuously firing off in inflammatory cascades, it has less ammunition to contribute to fighting colds, flu, respiratory infections, stomach bugs and so on. You may notice that you get sick more often and more severely. How often are you home sick? How often do you find yourself needing those antibiotics? Am anti-inflammatory diet also means immune boosting because the immune system can finally work on other things.

I do not know of anyone who does not want to look younger, feel younger and live longer, now its seems that reducing inflammation in you body can help you achieve these dreams.

I was doing some research on inflammation and came across an article by the world renowned Dr. Perricone, who stated that the single cause of aging and age related diseases and conditions such as diabetes, Alzheimer, arthritis, heart disease, diabetes, wrinkled skin and loss or bone and muscle is inflammation.

The WebMD site for example has has information about inflammation and aging written by Susan Moore R.D. spokeswoman for the American Dietetic Association saying that food choices are critical in delaying the onset of aging, and the sooner you start the better. Foods that are high in phytonutrients are the key, because as we age we become more effected to the long term effects of oxidative stress( where body has too many free radicals and inflammation on the cellular level).

There are many ways of lowering inflammation, some simple and some more profound. changing your diet is the first one, giving up high glycemic foods, such as cakes, cookies, muffins, breads, soda's etc.

Taking Nopalea cactus juice which is rich in bioflavonoids, the photonutrients that help to reduce inflammation is another. Nopalea is best known for it role in fighting pain and inflammation, but it can also provide other benefits making you feel better, look better, live longer, sleep better and have more energy.

Cactus Juice Chronic Inflammation and Pain Relief

Original Article @ David Ogdens Blog

Chronic Depression can cause brain damage, it seems once again inflammation, a natural function of the the body is once again to be blamed according to a report that that was published a couple of years ago, at the university of California.

"It's necessary and normal so that an individual can adapt, change behaviour and deal with altered circumstances," Markou said. Real problems occur only "when these restructuring processes go into overdrive, beyond what is necessary and adaptive, and for longer periods of time than needed. Then depression becomes pathological."

Markou and Wager-Smith, the researchers involved, argued that existing, conflicting views about depression actually describe different aspects of the same phenomenon. Psychoanalytic and sociological theories refer to the psychological transformation that occurs during a productive depressive episode. Biomedical theories relate to the neural remodeling that underlies this psychological change. And neurodegenerative theories account for remodeling malfunctions.

"The big question, of course, is why aren't all people affected the same way," said Markou. "Why do some people deal effectively with stress, but others perpetuate a pathological state? This is an interesting question for future research."
The researchers' findings may have clinical ramifications as well. If psychological and physical pain responses share similar biological mechanisms, then analgesic agents could be useful in treating at least some symptoms of depression. Similarly, if chronic depression is proven to be a neuroinflammatory condition, then anti-inflammatory treatments should also have some antidepressant effects.

So my question today is could cactus juice which fight chronic pain and inflammation also reduce depression. A quick search on the Internet revealed one article of support.

"However, one day I went along to a women's networking event and met a woman who told me about Aloe Vera. She told me that you could drink this 'wacky cactus juice' and that it might help me with the migraines. At that time I was tired, fed up and would have tried anything. Well, within three weeks the Aloe Vera Gel sorted out my digestion, and after 3 months the migraines were showing definite signs of improvement. 6 months later the incidence and severity were reduced by 90%"

Cactus Juice Chronic Inflammation and Pain Relief

Original Article @ David Ogdens Blog

Nopalea Cactus Juice
Natural Pain and Inflammation Relief

I have been writing chronic inflammation for some time now and came across an article about grounding which may be of interest. Grounding or earthling, in the simplest terms possible, can be a simple as walking barefoot; grounding your body to the Earth. Your skin in general is a very good conductor, so you can connect any part of your skin to the Earth, but if you compare various parts there is one that is especially potent, and that's right in the middle of the ball of your foot; a point known to acupuncturists as Kidney 1 (K1). It's a well-known point that conductive connects to all of the acupuncture meridians and essentially connects to every nook and cranny of your body.

When you're grounded there's a transfer of free electrons from the Earth into your body. And these free electrons are probably the most potent antioxidants known to man. These antioxidants are responsible for the clinical observations from grounding experiments, such as beneficial changes in heart rate, decreased skin resistance, and decreased levels of chronic inflammation.

Furthermore, researchers have also discovered that grounding thins your blood, making it less viscous. This discovery can have a profound impact on cardiovascular disease, which is now the number one killer in the world. Virtually every aspect of cardiovascular disease has been correlated with elevated blood viscosity. It turns out that when you ground to the earth, your zeta potential quickly rises, which means your red blood cells have more charge on their surface, which forces them apart from each other.

This action causes your blood to thin and flow easier. It also causes your blood pressure to drop. By repelling each other, your red blood cells are also less inclined to stick together and form a clot. Additionally, if your zeta potential is high, which grounding can facilitate, you not only decrease your heart disease risk but also your risk of multi-infarct dementias, where you start losing brain tissue due to micro-clotting in your brain.

I do sometimes walk about barefoot and I admit it a great feeling but I did not realise that it was good for you perhaps I will be doing it more often in the future.

Arthritus and Inflammation

Original Article @ David Ogdens Blog

Nopalea Cactus Juice
Natural Pain and Inflammation Relief

A common perception exists that arthritis can't be prevented because the joint cartilage (the cushioning that covers the bones in a joint) simply wears away with age. But actually joint cartilage wears away with inflammation with is a normal healing process. But if the inflammatory response does not shut off and becomes chronic, it can not only affect joints, but blood vessel walls (atherosclerosis), lining cells of the gut (as in lactose and gluten intolerance), and contribute to diseases like diabetes, cancer, strokes and other illnesses.

If you can prevent chronic inflammationn you can prevent joint problems. Even if you already have arthritis reducing the amount of inflammation in your system will help relieve your symptoms and give you more freedom of movement – sometimes within weeks or days. Highly movable joints such as the wrists, fingers, shoulders, hips, and knees, are the most likely to be affected by osteoarthritis. These are called "synovial joints" because the two bones meeting in this type of joint are bathed in synovial, a clear fluid whose job is to provide lubrication. Sometimes, though, the membrane that secretes the synovial becomes inflamed. According to Dr. Vijaya Nair in her book Prevent Cancer, Strokes, Heart Attacks and other Deadly Killers,

"When an avalanche of inflammatory chemicals gets released, those inflammatory chemicals wear away joint cartilage. The first step in any program to combat arthritis and joint problems isn't to stop the pain – it's to s top the inflammation."

Doctors can prescribe anti-inflammatory drugs, but there are healthier ways to combat inflammation. People can alter their diet to include foods such as olive oil, cod, salmon, sardines, kale, ginger, book choy, mushrooms, avocados, cranberries, apples, cinnamon, almonds just to name a few. Avoiding sugar, processed foods, polyunsaturated oils that contain few omega-3's, and for some people, gluten and diary. Hormone-laden meat can also trigger an inflammatory response as can pesticides and chemical ingredients in foodstuffs. Stress is probably the biggest factor because the chemical reaction our bodies create to stressors lowers our immune response and allows inflammation to run unchecked.

In addition Dr. Nair recommends a simple list of supplements that she has seen create an effective treatment. Probably the easiest, most effective anti-inflammatory supplement is curcumin. But be careful because not all curcumin is effective. You need one that has Curcumin, Demethoxycurcumin and Bisdemethoxycurcumin – collectively known as Curcuminoids. Other ingredients that help inflammation are bromelain, resveratrol, ginger, alpha lipoic acid and zinc and cactus juice. It is also prudent to take a good plant oil combination made from flax, primrose and sunflower oils.

Nopalea Cactus Juice
Natural Pain and Inflammation Relief

Each day brings a new wave of toxins, pollutants, bacteria, viruses and chemicals into your body — from the air you breathe and the food you eat, to the water you drink and even the things you touch. Stress, nutrient deficiencies, metabolic waste and physical injury also take their toll on your health.

What is your bodies reaction to these invaders ... Inflammation, which is your bodies natural defence meachanism. However in some cased this can develop into chronic inflammtion, which is dangerous.

In 2004, TIME magazine ran an astonishing story about inflammation and its destructive effect on the body's health.
Since then, medical science went on to find even more links between chronic inflammation and highly debilitating conditions, including:

  • Muscles, joint and bone inflammation – causing ongoing body pain
  • Respiratory inflammation – causing allergic reactions
  • Digestive tract inflammation – causing bloating, cramps and burning
  • Widespread body cell inflammation – causing overall tiredness
Inflammation is the problem… Nopalea cactus juice is a solution!

Nopalea (No--pah la-y'uh) helps fight off harmful toxins surrounding your body's cells. So, it helps your body reduce inflammation and promote optimal cellular health. When your cells are healthy and free of toxins, your whole body can function at its best.

Nopalea cactus juice is a tasty wellness drink sourced from the fruit of the Nopal cactus. The healing properties of the Nopal cactus have been relied on for centuries by native peoples, and they're now available in Nopalea. Each 32–ounce bottle of Nopalea brims with the health benefits of the Nopal fruit, in a proprietary blend delivering the rare, potent Bioflavonoid antioxidants.

Bioflavonoids: not your typical antioxidants
Bioflavonoids are powerful antioxidants that help your body reduce inflammation. Bioflavonoids support the structure and function of cells. They also work to neutralize toxins by supporting your natural detoxification processes as well as draining away accumulations of toxic waste.

The average U.S. or Canadian diet is typically devoid of Bioflavonoids. The main reason for this is that Bioflavonoids are only available from a few types of plants: the Nopal cactus, beets, Swiss chard and a few weeds and fungi. But not all Bioflavonoid-producing plants are equal. Plants produce Bioflavonoids to protect themselves from harsh environments; so the harsher the environment, the greater the Bioflavonoid production. That's why, among all of the world's plants, the Nopal cactus has the highest concentration of Bioflavonoids – it lives in the brutally inhospitable conditions of the Sonoran Desert in SW USA and Mexico.

Cactus Juice Chronic Inflammation and Pain Relief

Nopalea Cactus Juice
Natural Pain and Inflammation Relief

Some people can tolerate pain and others can't however pain is a signal from your body that something is wrong, so you should not always ignore it, especial if it continues for a few days.

What is the difference between acute pain and chronic pain?

There is an old saying that applied to pain and many other areas of life including work, play and relationships: "If the stove is too hot, take your hand off of it!" We take our hand off of a literal hot stove because of what is called a withdrawal reflex. We will often withdraw our hand or foot from a painful experience even before we have fully defined what is hurting us. In acute (short-term) pain, removing the trigger is very important. Common triggers for acute pain are:

  • Trauma
  • Toxins
  • Deficiencies
  • Stress

On the other hand some pain persists even when you "take your hand off the stove". This is called chronic (long-term) pain. For instance, chronic back pain and chronic headaches persist long after the trauma that caused them. Many times there is no specific trauma. The pain just starts and won't go away.

This happens because of the way our nerves are constructed. You see, nerves don't really feel pain; they merely sense stimulation. It is up to our brain to interpret the signal as pain. We have specific nerve fibers that "fire" under specific conditions. One group of fibres may be triggered by a sharp jab, another group by dull pressure. One group may be triggered by heat and another by extreme cold. The nerves carry this specific message to our brain for interpretation. Our brain interprets the signal as painful. The volume of the signal helps us determine the intensity of the pain.

In chronic pain the signal travels from the nerve to the spine and onwards to the brain, the return signal message is supposed to shut off the pain signal when the irritation is gone, but in chronic pain, the return signal is not switched off. Instead, it is amplified.

There are many methods of reducing pain and inflammation, including natural remedies such as nopalea cactus juice, omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids which unlike prescription drugs have no side effects.

Many puzzles are yet to be solved by modern medicine. As we continue to seek causes and solutions for the ills that plague mankind, confusion still swirls around two of the more "mysterious" ailments: chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) and fibromyalgia (FMS). They have some important traits in common:

  • We don't know what causes either CFS or fibromyalgia
  • They share several symptoms such as chronic inflammation
  • There is no cure
The confusion around these two syndromes is fed by their overlapping nature: It's estimated that up to 70% of people diagnosed with CFS also fit the clinical guidelines for FMS, and vice versa. Most people with CFS have some kind of pain or chronic inflammation, which is a major symptom of FMS. And most people with FMS report fatigue, a major symptom of CFS. No wonder even doctors can be unsure which is which.

We do know, however, that many physicians and researchers (along with patients) support supplementation — including Vitamin B-12 and folic acid — as an important part of managing symptoms. Here's a thumbnail look that helps explain why:

CFS: As the name suggests, this is a disorder that causes extreme fatigue. This fatigue is not the tiredness that goes away after you rest. Instead, it lasts a long time and limits your ability to do ordinary daily activities. Symptoms of CFS include fatigue for six months or more, and other problems such as muscle pain, memory problems, headaches, pain in multiple joints, sleep problems, sore throat and tender lymph nodes. It is most common in women in their 40s and 50s, but anyone can have it. It can last for years.

FMS: Fibromyalgia makes you feel tired and causes muscle pain and "tender points". Tender points are places on the neck, shoulders, back, hips, arms or legs that hurt when touched. Other symptoms can include chronic inflammation trouble sleeping, morning stiffness, headaches, and problems with thinking and memory, sometimes called "fibro fog".

No one knows what causes fibromyalgia. Anyone can get it, but it is most common in middle-aged women. People with rheumatoid arthritis and other autoimmune diseases are especially prone to fibromyalgia.

… both syndromes can affect mental function… this may be a key to the use of B vitamins.

Notice that both syndromes can affect mental function: memory and thinking problems can arise, and this may be a key to the use of B vitamins. As you may know, the medical links between B vitamins and brain function are strong and well documented.

So, it isn't surprising that healthcare professionals in both traditional and alternative medicine, including experts in CFS and FMS, support the use of B vitamins and folic acid to help manage symptoms.

If you or a loved one have, or suspect you have, one of these confusing syndromes, it's important to know that both are much more than just being tired, or having some muscle pain. CFS and FMS are often misunderstood, and deserve attention and treatment. I urge you to consult with your healthcare professional, and to see how the highest quality B vitamin supplementation might help.

How chronic inflammation worsens your health over time

Though you may not see or even feel chronic inflammation, it could be silently causing trouble within your body right now. Over time, it can result in two kinds of damage: first to the immediate area of your body that's chronically inflamed; and second to your overall health as well. Common problems can include:

More than 50 million Americans suffer from chronic pain. Many people find they can gain long-term control over their pain through many alternative methods like heat or cold application, music, relaxation, exercise, meditation, acupuncture and a positive attitude.

"Pain is a chronic condition, just like hypertension or diabetes," Dr. Turk explains. "When you have a chronic condition, you need to do more things for yourself. It's going to last a long time. It's best to help yourself and learn to self-manage and control your pain."

The Options
In addition to traditional pain relievers, nondrug methods of pain relief may help you gain that control. Some techniques, such as imagery and the use of hot and cold relax the muscles, help you sleep, and distract you from symptoms. Others, such as music, movies, and recorded comedy routines, take your mind off your physical complaints, as does losing yourself in a good book.

While some remedies require little expertise or help from others, some may require instruction from a professional. Dr. Ronald Glick is the director of the University of Pittsburgh Pain Evaluation and Treatment Center. Dr. Glick recommends that patients seek advice from a chronic pain specialist who can coordinate all aspects of management, including physical therapies and psychological techniques.

While these pain relief techniques help many people with chronic pain, they are not cures for pain.

Heat and Cold

"The most important thing about heat and cold is that it gives a sense of control,"
Dr. Turk says. "They are things you can do yourself to help relieve the pain, which can immediately reduce the emotional stress."

Direct Application

"Heat and cold can be quite helpful for people with musculoskeletal conditions," says Dr. Turk. "Something as simple as a bag of frozen peas wrapped in a towel can be a useful self-management technique that relieves muscle tension in the back, neck and shoulders."
Most of us are familiar with holding an ice pack on a twisted ankle or lying on a heating pad for a sore back. But hot and cold treatments can be used in other ways. Moist heat, which is often more effective than dry heat, can be applied with a warm towel or a soak in the tub. An elastic bandage can hold an ice pack in place. A small paper cup filled with water and kept in the freezer becomes an excellent tool for localized cold massage, while iced washcloths can cover a larger area.

Muscle Relaxation Exercises
Progressive muscle relaxation is a technique that may be effective for both muscle spasm pain and stress reduction.

"Relaxation skills are useful in reducing muscle tension, and can help reduce frustration and some of the stress,"
says Jennifer Markham, PhD, at the University of Pittsburgh Pain Clinic. Progressive muscle relaxation involves focusing your attention on each muscle group until it feels heavy and relaxed. You usually begin in the feet and gradually progress upward.

Exercise
Although you may not feel like getting off the couch because you hurt so much, exercising within the confines of your physical limitations can decrease pain. Why? The reasons are complex, but one prominent theory is that exercise releases endorphins, which are natural pain relieving chemicals in your brain.

"Exercise is absolutely critical," says Dr. Turk. "The type of exercise will depend on the condition, but as a general rule of thumb, the more active you remain and the more you use your muscles, the better off you're going to be."

A physical therapist can tailor an initial exercise plan based on your capacity to exercise, and then gradually make recommendations for increasing how much you do and for how long. Pain experts recommend pacing activities. Overdoing it on good days can come back to haunt you later. It's fine to cut back on your exercise during a flare-up of your pain, but it's important to resume your exercise routine as soon as you feel better.

Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a form of Chinese Medicine. It involves insertion of very thin needles into the skin at different and very specific points of the body. It has been shown to be effective for treatment of chronic back pain and some forms of pain resulting from nerve damage. It requires several treatments, usually between 2-5 before a response can be seen. Results of acupuncture also largely depend on the skills of the acupuncturist.

Meditation
The benefits of meditation go beyond relaxation response. Studies show that daily meditation may be an excellent tool in fighting chronic pain. There are a variety of different meditation techniques and one should choose a mediation style that is comfortable for him or her. Meditation can be done easily in the privacy of one's home.

Hypnotherapy
Hypnosis has nothing to do with popular images of stage performance. It was first utilized as a therapeutic modality more than 100 years ago. It is a well documented technique that can be useful in chronic pain management. It is done by a trained and licensed therapist. The exact way by which hypnosis works is not fully understood. It induces the state of focused awareness, which is known to alleviate many forms of pain.

Inflammation and Diabetes

A new link between obesity and type 2 diabetes found in mice could open the door to exploring new potential drug treatments for diabetes, University of Michigan Health System research has found. Drugs for type 2 diabetes commonly target insulin, which lowers blood glucose levels. But the U-M study suggests that glucagon – a pancreas-produced hormone that has the opposite effect of insulin by raising blood glucose levels – may also provide a powerful pathway to preventing and treating the increasingly prevalent disease. Findings of the study were published this week ahead of print in Nature Medicine.

"Reducing sugar levels is the biggest goal for people with type 2 diabetes,"
says senior author Liangyou Rui, Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of Molecular and Integrative Physiology at the U-M Medical School.
"We've mostly focused on controlling insulin production and action to treat diabetes but there has been very little study on the opposite hormone glucagon. "Our study shows for the first time that obesity also affects glucagon action and that this hormone also contributes to high glucose levels found in type 2 diabetes."
Authors identified the NIK/NF-B2 pathway, which promotes glucagon responses in obesity. NIK was abnormally activated in mice with dietary or genetic obesity and the inhibition of liver NIK was found to cure diabetes in obese mice.

Insulin resistance – which reduces the body's ability to decrease blood glucose – has been the main hallmark of type 2 diabetes, which is the most common form of diabetes in the United States afflicting millions of Americans.

"There is a common theory that inflammation in liver and fat tissue associated with obesity causes insulin resistance and that leads to the biggest problem for type 2 diabetes: high blood glucose levels,"Rui says. "But blood glucose is also controlled by this other hormone glucagon, which signals to the liver to produce glucose. Inflammation may enhance the ability of glucagon to increase blood sugar. "Obesity is a growing problem worldwide, leading to more cases of type 2 diabetes,"Rui adds. "We hope to offer more data that can help expand options to treat this rampant disease."

Natural Pain and Inflammation Relief

Inflammation plays an important role in helping your body heal. If you've ever jammed your finger, scraped your knee, or sprained your ankle, you're already familiar with acute inflammation. Your body suffers an injury, it swells up and hurts; that tells you that you are supposed to rest and support it until it heals. Inflammation is part of your body's response to nearly any type of physical injury and is critical for health.

However, inflammation is not always as obvious or benign as the above examples. It can silently involve every cell in your body and, over time, negatively affect your health and abilities. Chronic inflammation is our enemy. Chronic inflammation puts your body's immune system in overdrive and in the process, healthy cells can be damaged. An overactive immune system can lead to cardiovascular disease, neurological disease, Alzheimer's, type II diabetes, arthritis, lung disease, cancer or autoimmunity.

How can you tell if you have chronic inflammation?

The levels of certain chemicals in your blood are known to increase with increased levels of inflammation. One of these chemical markers for inflammation is a protein called C-reactive protein (CRP). CRP is often measured in conjunction with other blood tests, and normal values are well established. From a clinical standpoint, a CRP level of less than 5 milligrams per liter of blood is considered normal. "Normal" may not be optimal, though. Many medical researchers believe that even slight elevations of CRP are tied to increased risk for heart attack, stroke, and many other diseases.

What Inflammatory Foods Are You Eating?

If you have a food intolerance, those items are activating your immune system when you eat them. You need to stop eating them or try a rotational diet. In addition, whether you are intolerant, allergic or not, the following foods are have inflammatory affects in the body and should be consumed with awareness and limitation:

  • Sugar
  • Alcohol
  • Conventional meat – cows/sheep/weren't designed to eat corn, and their feed changes the composition of their cells making them high in omega 6?s and low in Omega 3?s. They also are laden with growth hormones and antibiotics.
  • Polyunsaturated oils like corn, soybean, sunflower, safflower, cottonseed and other vegetable oils because they are high in Omega 6?s and so many prepared foods are cooked with them.
  • Transfats -Watch out for packages that claim to have zero grams per serving-that means there ARE transfats in the item, just less than they need to report (PER SERVING) – and who eats the serving size anyway?!)
  • Dairy products – it's estimated that up to 60% of the world's population can't digest dairy, and it's a common allergen that triggers inflammatory responses.
  • Processed meats -this includes anything smoked, salted, cured, or chemically preserved.
  • Refined grains (i.e. white flour, white rice, bread, pasta, baked goods.)
Nightshades, such as tomatoes, potatoes and eggplant are no-no for people who suffer from joint, digestive and nerve-muscle problems.

Cactus Juice Chronic Inflammation and Pain Relief

Natural Pain and Inflammation Relief for Fibromyalgia

Theres is no cure for fibromyalgia. The treatments we do have involve managing various symptoms, such as pain, sleep problems, headaches, irritable bowel syndrome and/or mood disorders. To date, the FDA has approved three medications for fibromyalgia: pregabalin, duloxetine hydrochloride and milnacipran, but other drugs may be prescribed, including pain relievers, antidepressants, muscle relaxants and sleep medications.

People with fibromyalgia may have difficulty tolerating these medications, so it's not unusual to try different medications with a doctor's supervision to see what works best.

Otherwise, lifestyle therapies are key. Regular physical activity or exercise can produce small to modest improvements in pain, fatigue, sleep, mood and quality of life. Even if you experience pain during exercise, stay as physically active as possible every day. Keep up with lifestyle activities such as walking the dog, stretching, putting away groceries and light housekeeping. Some people with fibromyalgia can, and eventually do, engage in a traditional exercise program. According to the National Fibromyalgia Association, walking, the use of a stationary bicycle, and aqua therapy (with a floatation device that allows you to remain upright in the pool) seem to be the most suitable activities for fibromyalgia patients. For some people, it's helpful to work with a physical therapist or an exercise physiologist.

Ideally, people with fibromyalgia should maintain a consistent level of activity every day. Fight the temptation to do too much or too little, and pace yourself. When you're feeling well, try not to overdo it by, for example, walking the mall for the entire day. When you have a flare, try to get out of bed, stretch and do light activities. If you're in pain, start off slowly, with 10 minutes of activity, then gradually work toward accumulating 30 minutes most days of the week, which is the general recommendation for wellness.

Sleep is a major problem for people with fibromyalgia, and increasing physical activity may promote better sleep. Also try a healthy diet, avoiding alcohol in the evening, cutting down on caffeine, going to bed at the same time every night, deep breathing and listening to calming music.

Managing stress can also be helpful, as many people with fibromyalgia report that their symptoms worsen during periods of stress. Deep breathing exercises, meditation, talking to friends and family, reading scripture, and writing down problems and potential solutions can sometimes be beneficial.

Other treatments that may help: acupuncture, chiropractic care, biofeedback, massage therapy, cognitive behavioural therapies, yoga, deep breathing, hypnosis and other relaxation techniques. Some people with fibromyalgia report that physical therapies, such as massage, produce an analgesic effect, providing several days of pain relief.

Arthritis is not age releated

Original Article @ David Ogdens Blog

Natural Pain and Inflammation Relief for Arthritis

According to a new report from the center for disease control (CDC), about 1 in every 5 Americans have doctor-diagnosed arthritis. If you are in an lift with more the 5 people, one of you has one of the 100 different kinds of arthritis (or rheumatic diseases). As we get older the chances of getting arthritis increases, but being young does not make you immune to getting arthritis. Two-thirds of people under 65, and 1 in 250 children, have some form of arthritis or other rheumatic condition.

One of the most common responses from patients when they go to a doctor with complaints of joint pain and stiffness is surprise if they are diagnosed with arthritis. They are surprised about a number of things, including their relatively young age and the degree of pain and disability arthritis can cause. A mistake some people make when there are told, or they suspect, they have arthritis, is to minimize it's seriousness as a medical condition, and how it may impact their young lives.

Sadly, many people ignore the problem for months, or years, during which time they self diagnose and treat themselves with every ointment, pill or herb they could find. While it is true that arthritis most commonly shows up as stiff joint pain, many other life threatening conditions might also feel that way too. It is also worth noting many kinds of arthritic conditions, from the common osteoarthritis, to the joint destroying rheumatoid arthritis, appear with the same set of initial symptoms.

People are further surprised to know that in the US over a people million a year are hospitalised for arthritic conditions. Additionally, out-of-pocket cost of arthritis can rack up thousands of dollars in medical bills per year! These costs may include everything from over the counter medications, physical therapy, prescriptions drugs and expensive injections and procedures.

It might not be too surprising to learn that people who are physical inactive are about 7% more likely to have arthritis, or that arthritis is more prevalent in obese people. What is more surprising is that people with arthritis more commonly have other chronic conditions like diabetes and heart disease.

Many patients wrongly assume that there is not much they can do prevent or threat their arthritis. The most important thing a person can do is understand how to manage their own disease; understand what exacerbation look like, and how to intervene early. It is critical to stay active and engage is regular exercise that support joints without over-stressing then. Managing your weight is an effective way of reducing stress on joints. I can not over estimate how important it is to consult your physician who will not only help take the guess work out of the diagnosis, and partner with you on your journey to wellness.

Chronic Pain Relief - Fibromyalgia

Original Article @ David Ogdens Blog

Nopalea Cactus Juice
Natural Pain and Inflammation Relief for Fibromyalgia

As many as 5 million people in the United States population (over 90 percent of them women) may have fibromyalgia, but many have yet to be diagnosed. In the meantime, they experience widespread pain and a diminished quality of life. We asked Kevin Fontaine, Ph.D., associate professor of medicine in the division of rheumatology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, to explain this puzzling syndrome.

People with fibromyalgia complain of unrelenting body pain and tenderness. They experience poor sleep and fatigue, and some have other troubling symptoms. It's not unusual for sufferers to experience irritable bowel syndrome, chronic headaches, chemical sensitivities (such as to medications, foods and fabrics), jaw pain, discomfort in the bladder, restless legs syndrome and/or a mood disorder such as depression or anxiety. Many people also report so-called "fibro fog", or an inability to concentrate and recall information.

Typically, onset of fibromyalgia pain is fairly sudden. For some patients, there is a triggering event such as an injury, illness, surgery or emotional trauma. From one day to the next, they experience an increase in feelings of pain. And these symptoms never seem to abate, although they can wax and wane for reasons that are not understood.

A person with fibromyalgia could be struggling for months or years with these symptoms, going from doctor to doctor, before finally being diagnosed.

That person should not think that they're crazy. These symptoms are legitimate, and they require medical attention.

It's important to find a doctor who will listen. Patients report that some doctors don't believe that fibromyalgia is a legitimate medical condition, which may help explain why it can take years to be diagnosed and why patients sometimes feel disrespected and even stigmatised when they try to get help.

Since a doctor relies heavily on your self-reports to make a diagnosis and to guide treatment, keep a diary to track how well you're feeling from day to day. Include:

  • Your level of pain: Note where you hurt, and rate your overall level pain on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 indicating little to no pain and 10 indicating the worst pain you've ever experienced.
  • Daytime fatigue: Jot down whether fatigue prevents you from doing any of your usual activities, such as going to work, exercising or running errands.
  • A sleep history: Write down the number of hours you slept the night before and whether you had difficulty falling or staying asleep.
  • Your mood: State whether you feel generally upbeat, mildly depressed or worse.
Fibromyalgia can be mistaken for numerous conditions, including multiple sclerosis, Lyme disease, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, diabetes, Sjogren's disease, Raynaud's disease, Parkinson's, menopause, depression…the list goes on and on. Testing can help determine if one of those conditions is actually the cause of your symptoms.

There are some clues that fibromyalgia is the actual culprit, often because other conditions are ruled out. Although the pain you feel is similar to that of arthritis, fibromyalgia produces no visible physical changes, so X-rays, biopsies and blood tests may show nothing unusual. You can rule out chronic fatigue syndrome, which is often mistaken for fibromyalgia, if you experience a higher level of body pain and tenderness. Pain from a musculoskeletal injury or a strain tends to be localized and usually improves with rest and, perhaps, anti-inflammatory medications, such as ibuprofen. Fibromyalgia, on the other hand, involves widespread pain and tenderness that doesn't seem to improve over time.
