Chronic pain and inflammation relief

Do you suffer from anxiety, fatigue, and chronic pain, yet are told you're crazy, lazy, or depressed by friends, family, and doctors who try to make you think your illness is all in your head? If so, you're not alone.

Though your distress certainly feels real, their accusations make you wonder. You do often lose your train of thought mid-sentence, have strange reactions to medications, and suffer with an assortment of health problems as all your labs return normal. Then there is insomnia, irritable bowel syndrome, mitral valve prolapse, chronic sinusitis, tingling in the extremities, night sweats, chemical sensitivities, headaches, and reflux to name a few. Maybe you are crazy. You've been bounced from one doctor to another, had dozens of tests, taken numerous prescription drugs, which didn't help, and you get worse year after year. Anyone would be made crazy if they went days without sleep, had diffuse chronic pain, no energy, no answers, no life, and no hope.

The traditional drugs of choice for fibromyalgia include: Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS), antidepressants, anticonvulsant medications, muscle relaxants, tranquillizers, and pain medications. While they may provide short term relief, their results are often fleeting and their side-effects detrimental. It's not unusual for fibromyalgia sufferers to take 12 or more prescription drugs, many of which contribute to their erratic behaviour.

For example, the sleep drugs, Ambien and Lunesta, may cause short-term memory loss, fatigue, flu-like symptoms, and depression. Tricyclic antidepressants, including Trazadone and Elavil, may cause early morning hangover, mental confusion, and lethargy. Selective Serotonin Re-uptake Inhibitors (SSRI) drugs may cause anxiety, depression, mental blunting, and lethargy. Klonopin and other benzodiazepines may cause depression, fatigue, and decreased mental function. All of these drugs are known to deplete at least one or more essential mood-dependant vitamins, minerals, or nutrients (B6, B12, CoQ10, folic acid, etc.). Individuals with fibromyalgia are also deficient in the brain chemicals, which help regulate mood and mental function.

Chronic pain and inflammation relief

From your head to your back to your legs, no matter where it is when you have a pain, you just want it to stop. But did you know there's a whole list of things you should never do to treat pain?

Lots of people live with pain – the chronic, daily kind. You may think you're helping yourself, but sometimes what you try to do is actually hurting.

1. Trying To Tough It Out
For example, maybe you're trying to tough it out, hoping it will go away.

"I think it's important to determine why you're having pain and determine if there's cause; you should not be what you would call toughing it out," says Dr. David Provenzano, a pain specialist.

2. Afraid To Exercise
At the other end of the spectrum, maybe you're afraid to exercise.

"We know that muscles get de-conditioned over time, and that if we don't have you using those muscles, your pain may actually get worse," said Dr. Provenzano.

3. Surgery As A Quick Fix
Maybe you feel surgery will fix things right away.

"Surgery should not be your first choice if it can be avoided because we can't always guarantee your result," he added.

4. Seeing Multiple Doctors
Perhaps you see multiple doctors, in hopes of a final answer. It's better to have one doctor coordinating treatment and referrals, some treatments do not work well with others.

5. Depression Gets Overlooked
Sometimes depression gets overlooked as a contributing factor, isolating people from family and friends.

"Any time people have chronic pain, it's really in many cases very hard for them to handle," Dr. Provenzano said. "In many cases, people with chronic pain would benefit from some counseling."

There's no single cause for chronic pain. Wear and tear changes on the bones and joints, nerve damage and old injuries can all lead to chronic pain, you just need to find a solution that works for you

I am actually appalled with the fact that so in this day and age so many people suffer from chronic pain and inflammation. There are of course many over the counter and prescription drug which can be used to reduce pain and inflammation, however many of these can have unwanted side effects especially if they are taken over a long time.

So what are the alternatives to reduce pain and inflammation. Well I personally have found that Nopalea cactus juice has been effective with controlling my Arthritis. There is no such thing as a cure for chronic pain and inflammation so this means that a person suffering from pain and inflammation will need to take whatever works for them for the rest of their life. this is why I prefer a natural pain and inflammation reliever, because it appears to have no side effects.

Chronic pain affects more than 7.5 million Americans each year, and when you add some sort of addiction to the equation, treatment can get complicated. Sufferers not only deal with the physical pain associated with chronic pain, but disorders such as depression and anxiety are usually present as well. People suffering with the physical and mental aspects of chronic pain tend to become self-destructive and turn to alcohol, abuse prescription drugs, or resort to illegal substances such as heroin, morphine, codeine, OxyContin, Dilaudid, and methadone.

Most chronic pain sufferers enter in an endless vicious cycle where the pain prevents them from doing the things they once loved. As a side effect, they become unhappy and turn alcohol or the abuse of drugs to numb the physical as well as the mental pain. Some sufferers refuse to take any medication, yet the pain gets stronger and are left to deal with the consequences. The despair does not end there, sufferers often believe that no one understands the pain they go through and often think that they are making up the pain.

The most important way of helping, is giving them a sense of hope; that they can manage the pain and live with it to enjoy life without that impediment. Aside from counseling and lending an ear, there are several ways to help sufferers ease their pain and addictions without turning to prescription drugs. Minimal and non-invasive procedures are often successful in offering relief. Other methods include natural pain relief juice, massage, acupuncture, psychological and support therapy, exercise therapy, and group counseling.

Many people turn to Over-the-counter (OTC) pain relievers for pain relief, because they do not require a prescription which is why many people use them without sufficient consideration for their safe use. In response, the Food & Drug Administration has begun to enforce regulations concerning warning labels and dosage. The FDA may also move to ban some prescription medications containing acetaminophen, a very common ingredient in OTC pain relievers.

There are two forms of non-prescription pain relievers:

  • Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, called NSAIDs, are found in aspirin, Advil, Motrin, Aleve, and others
  • Acetaminophen is found in Tylenol and many generic pain relievers

NSAIDs Risks

The biggest risk with NSAIDs is severe and sometimes fatal gastrointestinal bleeding. NSAIDs can trigger an increase in stomach acid and, at the same time, reduce the stomach's normal protective mucus layer. In some patients, these widely used drugs can also make high blood pressure worse. They can cause reversible damage to the kidneys in people over 60; those with high blood pressure, heart disease, or pre-existing kidney disease; and people taking water pills.

Acetaminophen Risks

Acetaminophen is considered safe if used according to the directions. However, taking more than the recommended dose can cause liver disease, liver failure, and death. Often, liver damage occurs before any symptoms show up. Shockingly, acetaminophen has replaced viral hepatitis as the leading cause of acute liver failure in the United States. The risk is greatest in people who already have liver problems, such as hepatitis or cirrhosis. But anyone who takes too much of the drug for too long faces danger.

Experts say that despite growing worries, OTC painkillers can be safe and effective, even for people with chronic pain. But it's crucial to follow a few rules.

Rule #1 for Over-the-Counter Painkillers: Don't Take Them Lightly

"The first mistake people make," says Penney Cowan, founder and executive director of the American Chronic Pain Association, "is thinking that if something is over-the-counter, it's safe and they can do anything they want with it. These are potent drugs that can have severe side effects."

Unfortunately, many people take them without a second thought. Philippe Berenger, MD, says, "We can ask patients what medicines they take. But they almost never mention over-the-counter pain medication unless we ask specifically, 'Are you taking Tylenol or Excedrin?'" Berenger is a pain management specialist at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.

"Patients end up compounding these drugs. They're taking Tylenol without keeping track of how much. Then they take a course of a cold medicine with acetaminophen. Then their doctor prescribes a drug with acetaminophen in it. All of a sudden they're at toxic doses

Pain and Chronic Inflammation relief

The sensation of pain that we feel is a result of how our brain transmits the signals that it receives, so it makes sense to assume that our brains can influence and manage the level of pain we feel should we decide to attempt to employ it as an effective chronic pain control tool.

There are many visualisation techniques that we can try that might help with pain management. Visualisation, also called guided imagery, is used and recommended by medical experts in the treatment of many conditions, including cancer, where the affected person may picture themselves in idyllic and serene surroundings feeling incredibly well and healthy or take an imaginary trip through the inside of their body as a way to fight and eliminate the cancer cells.

To begin the procedure of visualisation the body and mind must be in a relaxed state. However, if we are in the grip of chronic pain and anxiety it is difficult to focus on anything let alone relax, so here are some techniques to practice to get you in the right mindset to begin.

Lie down in a dimly lit room with your eyes shut or alternatively focus on something within the room. Slow down your breathing and breathe in and out becoming conscious of each breath and visualizing the air coming in and out of your lungs and your diaphragm moving up and down.

When you're feeling relaxed try and focus on a part of your body for example a hand, any part that's not the source of the pain as this will then detract from the pain. Just imagine that your hand is becoming warmer, try to really feel the heat. Now position the heated hand on the source of pain so that the sense of warmth is sent to the painful place, feel in your thoughts how comforting this is.

Now imagine you are about to be given an injection of morphine to ease your symptoms, envision the doctor swabbing the painful area and feel the sensation of the medicine going into your body, numbing the pain and flooding your body with a sense of well being. Another method is to actually transport the pain around one's body using your powers of visualisation, try and transfer the pain to a part of your body that can manage better with it, if you can do this you might even be able to move the pain out of your body entirely, flinging it out into the air.

These techniques may take a bit of practice, but they don't involve a trip to your physician or have a financial cost. You will be calm and focused and you will at least truly feel that you have some power over the pain you are enduring where until now you have been powerless.

Natural pain and inflammation relief

Pain is a medical symptom caused by one of innumerable physical consequences or medical conditions. It is one of the basic responses of the central nervous system, meant as alert that something is physically wrong and requires corrective action, if possible. The word pain in English is derived from the Latin word poena, which means a fine, as in a penalty.

Many other symptoms often accompany pain. Some of these symptoms include weakness, fatigue, nausea, pounding head, elevated stress dizziness and perspiration. Pain also has several emotional effects on a person. If it lasts long enough, it can cause people to feel irritable, depressed, angry, irritable or even suicidal. Long-term pain can cause a person to make lifestyle changes in order to accommodate it. Changes in work, social relationships, mobility and self-care are all common.

The primary treatment for pain is the administration of an analgesic medication. An ice pack can help reduce the pain and bring down any accompanying inflammation. Emotional support is often required to reduce the anxiety and discomfort.

Acute Pain

Acute pain has two concurrent definitions. It can be any pain that lasts less than 3 months. The other definition is pain directly caused by tissue damage. Acute pain is likened to a smoke alarm. It is an alert to a dangerous situation. The nerves in the body have specialized receptors that cause pain when activated. Most doctors can easily diagnose the source of acute pain.

Analgesic medications are often used to treat acute pain. One of the most reliable pain medications is Tramadol. Tramadol can help those suffering from acute pain to continue their business and regular daily activities. While most people don't like to ingest drugs or other pharmaceutical medications, it can be the only effective way to continue on with normal life. Tramadol is prescribed for moderate to moderately-severe pain and is often chosen over other pain killers because it is neither too weak nor is it as addictive as other stronger narcotic pain killers.

Acute pain comes in many different forms, so it is necessary to diagnose the source of the pain before entering a treatment by taking Tramadol. A complete diagnosis will require a physical examination from a doctor, but in many cases, an online consultation with a licensed physician is enough. The doctor will be able to confirm if Tramadol is acceptable for this type of pain.

Natural pain and inflammation relief

Pain being considered to be the fifth vital sign, it is considered as one of the key elements of the patient assessment. Doctors completely rely on patients to tell them whether they are in pain. Well, the days maybe numbered for us to keep trying to explain to our doctor how much something hurts on a scale of one to 10. Recently, the Scientists at Stanford University have taken an initiative in creating a new gold standard for assessing pain using computer learning software.

As the research and development continues for this innovation, the scientists have been able to predict most of the time whether the volunteers are experiencing pain or not. Moreover, to get these results, they have combined computer-learning software with a catalogue of MIR brain scans. For the study, the team uses a linear support vector machine – a computer algorithm – to classify patterns of brain activity and determine whether someone is experiencing pain. For this, the volunteers who undergo the brain scans are touched by a mildly heated probe and then again on a painfully hot setting. The computer uses data from these scans to recognise different brain activity patterns that occurs when a person is detecting heat, and which ones detect pain. It is estimated that, in these tests the computer has been more than 80 per cent accurate in detecting which brain scans are of people in pain or not. Conducted in a controlled laboratory environment, the study is said to need a further research to detect if the technology can be adapted to accurately show chronic pain.

Using this neuro-imaging technology, apart from the scale of pain, the team has also been successful in detecting whether the patient is in a state of pain or not. Hence, eventually with the use of this technology, doctors will be able to detect pain better and will be able to give better treatment of chronic pain.

So, the next time when we go to the doctor and he has this question in his mind for us that how much does it hurt, their their computer might be able to quantify their pain levels.

We underestimate how our emotions affect our body. Our body is meant to work properly unless we are doing something in our life that brings the energy out of balance like a mother carrying a baby on her hip will temporarily affect the mother's body alignment. Our emotions are stored in our energy body which in turn impacts our emotional and physical body.

If you are suffering from pain be it acute or chronic don't let it define who you are – you are not your pain and realise you do have a choice not to let it be you. When we go into battle with pain we are energetically empowering it – we are programming our brain to say that there is a battle going on but remember there are two sides in any battle one who wins and one who looses. We have been conditioned to think this way. We hear all the time about the "battle against cancer" or we are "fighting against an illness". However peace cannot be achieved though the process of war .. they are opposing energies. Don't go into battle with pain to eliminate it instead empower yourself in the process of pain release. If you are suffering from pain make a decision to look at the emotional component of it (there is almost always an emotional component to pain) and ask yourself "What is the emotional meaning that is driving the physical pain, why does my body want to hold onto the pain". And before you say "It's not my fault I am in pain ..I am not holding onto to pain because I want to .." don't fight it this time just go with this.

When someone decides to change their attitude to pain and decide to first accept it and deal with the emotional component they are choosing peace over war. You don't have to be defeated by your pain – this is a limiting core belief and unless you change this belief it will remain with you sabotaging any effort you make to release your pain and no matter how many years of taking pain killers it will still be there. Change this limiting core belief to one of acceptance. Some people say that they cannot be happy until this pain is gone however this is not so, if you change your belief you are empowering a shift to take place.

Start by saying "Ok I have this chronic pain in my back, its not who I am, I am going to have a deeper look and see what is behind it".

Natural pain and inflammation relief

Fibromyalgia is largely characterized by constant pain and fatigue. Research has proven that those who maintain a fitness curriculum are better able to cope with their illness, and feel better. Exercise can be hard enough when you're healthy, and suffering from Fibromyalgia (or other chronic illnesses) can make exercise seem impossible. The fact is that exercise provides a few benefits beyond the obvious. The first of which is the cardiovascular benefit you will receive. Since cardiovascular problems are common with numerous chronic illnesses, it makes good sense that it is important for that reason alone.

What's important with cardio really boils down to you getting your heart pumping at "your target heart rate" (everyone is slightly different), and maintaining that pace for 20 minutes or so (aim for 3 times a week). This provides numerous cardiovascular benefits, as well as other health benefits. None of this should be a surprise to you, as most people recognize fitness as a universal phenomenon. What many people do not know is how much more important it is for you when you have an illness that leads to a sedentary lifestyle. The longer you maintain a sedentary lifestyle, the more deconditioned you become. Deconditioning leads to a myriad of symptoms and illnesses that will send you spiraling downhill.

Exercise releases endorphins that reduce pain and increase mood and happiness; and helps with depression. Endorphins work like analgesics, and reduce the perception of pain. Exercising can also help with stress and anxiety reduction and improve sleep, lower your blood pressure, and strengthens your heart. Plus exercising at a fitness enter allows you to get out of the house and be social versus being isolated and alone.

If all you can manage is a cardio workout, you will see health benefits and reap rewards in the long run. But if you have been sedentary for any length of time (3 months or more for example), your muscles will begin to become deconditioned and you will need to strength train along with your cardio. Try to target one primary muscle group at each workout (chest, arms, back, shoulders, legs, and your core). Again, it is easy to overdue it, so you have to start small and work your way up slowly. There is controversy as to whether or not intense strength training is beneficial with Fibromyalgia. I think that it depends on the individual, and some may be able to do more than others. For the rest of us, you can achieve a conditioned body by using less weight, and a higher repetition; especially when suffering from chronic illness like Fibromyalgia.

Neck pain can be brought on by an injury or from disorders in the structure of the neck, including problems with the cervical vertebrae. The intensity of neck pain can be minor or severe and is triggered by such things as prolonged computer use, an awkward sleeping position, stress, a herniated disc and the growth of tumours. When you are experiencing neck pain, it can seem as if your neck and head are heavier than usual. >Ideas to reduce neck pain

If your pain is minor, continue on with your daily activities as you normally do. Your pain should subside within a few days or a week at the most. Try not to rely too heavily on a neck collar if your doctor has given you one. If you wear it beyond a few days, it can be hard for your neck to adjust to not being supported.

Try exercising the muscles in your neck and return them to painless functioning, sit in an upright position while looking straight ahead. Then tilt your head to the left and to the right, slowly, one inch at a time. Finally, stretch your neck downward and hold your chin to your chest for up to ten seconds.

In addition to these neck exercises, you can also apply heat or ice to the affected area every two to three hours. Do this for up to 15 minutes at a time to relieve cramping and swelling. If none of these solutions seem to be working, you can make another appointment with your doctor or possibly see if a chiropractor can help you attain better relief.

How to avoid Neck Pain from Developing

If your job requires you to be sedentary, take frequent stretch breaks and change positions. A few seconds every hour is all that is required in order for you to prevent neck pain from starting or experiencing it to a lesser degree if you already have it.

Take care when lifting anything heavy, if you must lift on a regular basis, make sure your knees are bent and you are lifting with your legs while doing this in order to prevent back pain from radiating up to your neck. Also, avoid moving your head around a lot or frequently reaching with your arms over your head. Finally, and perhaps the most importantly, make sure that you are sitting in a comfortable, ergonomic position every day.

Cactus Juice Inflammation and Pain Relief

Nopalea Cactus Juice
Natural pain and inflammation relief There's no doubting the fact that stress is highly detrimental to one's mental and physical well being. Research has shown that heightened stress levels are closely associated with the release of the catecholamine hormone in the bloodstream. Our body produces catecholamine when we are stressed and the scary part is that, the greater the levels of this hormone in our bloodstream, the more prone we are to heart and heart related diseases. This is mainly because; catecholamine increases one's heart rate and raises the blood pressure as well.

The sad reality is that stress is part and parcel of most people's lives and to get rid of it completely is next to impossible. At the same time, heart disease is no joke, as it can have a serious impact on your lifestyle. This is why, it is extremely important to reduce the amount of stress in your life. Now, although this is easier said than done, you will be surprised to know just how easy it is to lower your stress levels and lower your risk of heart disease by making a few changes to your hectic day-to-day living.

Stress management is the call of the hour and one of the best ways to beat stress is to exercise. When you exercise, your body releases a hormone known as endorphins. Endorphins are known to block pain, reduce appetite and give a great feeling overall (the exercise high). This greatly helps ease stress levels and acts as a very good mood stabilizer.

Another advantage of exercising is that its not just your biceps, triceps, stomach muscles, thigh muscles, calf muscles or any other muscles of your body that are trained, but it also exercises the most important muscle in your body, that is your heart, keeping it in good shape, so that it can serve you without any problem for years to come. Apart from the above mentioned, when you exercise you also clear the fat in your arteries which helps to maintain normal blood pressure levels.

Thus, beating stress can be as easy counteracting the stress hormone through exercise. Start this week by waking up every morning and going for a jog or walk coupled with a few stretching and warm-up exercises. You can also explore other methods of busting stress such as spending a relaxing day at the spa or going in for a nice massage. Perhaps, also one of the best ways to conquer stress is to attend meditation classes, as people who meditate on a regular basis swear by the soothing powers of meditation. So try out any of the aforementioned methods and discover a happier and healthier lifestyle.

Chronic pain management is more than just a form of treatment that your physician might suggest, it's a way of life for millions of people. According to the National Center for Health Statistics, 76.2 million Americans suffer from some form of chronic pain. This could be arthritis, lower back, bone/joint pain, muscle pain, and fibromyalgia. At The Pain Center, we'd also consider chronic migraine headaches into that mix, which would probably up the statistics.

A study found that an amazing 86 percent of chronic pain sufferers have serious trouble sleeping at night, 77 percent were depressed, and 59 percent said the chronic pain had a detrimental impact on their overall enjoyment of life. These are astonishing numbers, and the worst of it all is that chronic pain can be managed but rarely is. Chronic pain management is a proven practice that many family physicians are not equipped to facilitate.

Many treatments are available to physicians regarding pain management, yet medical schools rarely share all of this information. According to the study, many patients are turned away after returning to their family physicians for the same chronic pain for fear of drug addictions. Your family doctor might not have the time, knowledge, or training to understand just what you're are afflicted with and how to help you.

This is the root of the pain management problem. Prescription drugs are abused, and when chronic pain continues to cripple patients, it's hard for the family physician, who has not been trained properly in chronic pain management, to ethically continue to prescribe drug treatments.

In order for chronic pain to be managed safely and effectively, it's best to seek out a pain consultant who has been trained in this field. Treating an illness, as your family physician would, is one thing; treating a chronic pain is quite another story.

Exercise can be hard enough when you're healthy, and suffering from Fibromyalgia (or other chronic illnesses) can make exercise seem impossible. The fact is that exercise provides a few benefits beyond the obvious. The first of which is the cardiovascular benefit you will receive. Since cardiovascular problems are comorbid with numerous chronic illnesses, it makes good sense that it is important for that reason alone.

Plus exercising at a fitness centre allows you to get out of the house and be social versus being isolated and alone.

For the rest of us, you can achieve a conditioned body by using less weight, and a higher repetition; especially when suffering from chronic illness like Fibromyalgia.
